Management Team
Direct Leap's team is comprised of seasoned professionals with substantial combined experience in product engineering, non-profit technology, telecom infrastructure, carrier networking, and international commerce.
- Simon Rowland, President and CEO.
Designed and led engineering teams for products including a WiMAX-based IP-PBX, a wireless handheld, thin client computers, and several telecom testing systems. He has also deployed calling cards platforms, VoIP service, voicemail, and other services for telecom operators in several countries. Simon was a founding shareholder of TransOrbital, Inc., which launched a spacecraft into Low Earth Orbit in 2001. Served as an officer of several aerospace-related non-profits, and in 1995 led a team of thirty to produce a non-profit aerospace reference library. Simon studied at the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto, and ran as a candidate for public office during national elections in 2000.
- Scott Brown, B.Eng, MBA, Acting CTO.
Co-founder and product architect for five publicly-traded technology vendors in the telecommunications, life sciences, and computing arenas. Managed multi-site engineering team to create Sun's Netra telco server line from a concept, while achieving fastest-ever new product development timeline. Scott co-founded Optilink, an optical networking vendor, which achieved $1 billion in revenues during their 5th year and was sold to Alcatel. Scott completed his MBA at Pepperdine University, and is a private pilot.
- Vijay Koia, B.Eng, MBA. Technical Manager.
Varied roles including senior telecom engineering management and product management. Developed products for Fortune 500 telecom manufacturers including a VoIP-based PBX and an enterprise Network Monitoring System. Vijay has deep experience in telecom engineering, including five years of SIP stack development, and producing commercial products ranging from a software call processing server, two media gateways, and a new call processing module for a large softswitch.
- Ramulu Kambalapuram, M.Eng. Lead Engineer.
Engineered various telecom products and highly-scalable voice networks. Ramu has developed three predictive dialer products, a high-performance instant messaging server, a VoIP proxy, and an IVR / Media Server. He also has designed large datacenter facility installations for both Internet applications and voice traffic. Network design experience for high-volume voice networks, including managing carrier interconnections.
- Richard Miller, BA, MBA. Special Advisor.
Richard spent years in the Corporate Strategy practice of Deloitte Consulting. He has over ten years experience consulting to top executives in over 15 international markets. Prior to Deloitte, Richard completed his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Richard brings to the table the analytic skills and business background of a strategy consultant combined with the practical experience of having previously started up and run a successful NGO in Central America. He also has significant experience with the nonprofit sector in North America.
- David Troy, Special Advisor.
David Troy is a technology entrepreneur. In 1995, he founded ToadNet, a prominent ISP in the mid-Atlantic area, and was also a founding investor in Core Communications, a profitable CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) based in Annapolis, Maryland. In 2004, he sold ToadNet to Landmark Communications (parent of the Weather Channel) for cash. David has over 20 years experience with telephony and networking software and hardware platforms, and is an acknowledged expert in VoIP software architecture. David is also the creator of TwitterVision. David attended Johns Hopkins University, and is a private pilot.
